1) Can you take screenshot of your processes tab? 

 

2) Please ran a scan with these two tools to make sure you don't have any malware

     A) Malwarebytes Anti Malware 

     ( B)  AdwCleaner to scan PUPs,Adware,and Junkware

check task manager, see what that tells you?

I believe Chrome had the option for you to shut it down completely when you close the browser,  it located Settings > all the way down the bottom you will see there's last 2 check box.

Chrome to Firefox isn't much of a difference

 

People just exaggerate the RAM usage of Google Chrome

Hmm, when is the last time you restarted/shutdown your computer? Could be memory leaks, or you're just browsing extremely content-heavy websites

I have suspicious is definitely a virus/malware or maybe too many unnecessary applications. If you runs these two software and post back result that would be great  :) .

 

Malwarebytes Anti Malware to remove malware and AdwCleaner to remove Junkwares,Adwares,and PUPs

You sure do love your antivirus software. I don't use any on my PC ^_^. Only protection here is Windows Firewall and Microsoft Malicious SW Removal Tool (runs automatically)

I'm using ESET Smart Security since V5, nothing compare to this light AV with smart firewall.
