So I'm currently running this setup

ASUS RAMPAGE IV EXTREME

i7 3930k

32Gb DDR3 RAM

EVGA GeForce 980

I've had so many problems with this mobo it isn't even funny, after 4 RMA's over the years I'm ready to turn in the towel and move on.  I was currently looking at the 5930k, haven't checked out DDR4 RAM yet or a mobo for that matter.  My problem with getting a new mobo is I NEED to make sure the SATA 6Gbs ports run off the Intel controller.  Currently I have 2 128Gb SSD's using the 2 slots on my R4E, and a 1Tb SSD I got recently running off the garbage AsMedia controller.

Also, I'm not entirely sure if it's my OS SSD (HyperX 3k 128Gb), but boot times have become horrid and I'm currently reformatting to see if it helps at all.  Stalls in the OS, programs won't run, can't force close programs, etc etc.  I've run benches on the drive and everything seems to be fine with it so I'm leaning more towards the OS honestly.  Currently running 8.1, but getting Win10 as soon as I possibly can.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm banging my head up against a wall right now trying to deal with the numerous problems I am having with my setup after 3+? years.

Thanks in advance

Well this is hard because anything you get wont show a noticeable upgrade. Can you sell those parts if you can go for x99 + 5820 + ram if in hurry. But i strongly recommend waiting for skylake that is around the corner.

skylake is going to be less of an improvement than Haswell-E because of only 8 threads. Unless you mean Skylake-E which will be a long while yet.

I'm assuming you're still fine with your 980.

Did not know that, but if I am correct skylake will be compatible with both dd3 and ddr4 so his 32gb of ddr 3 does not go to "waste" (if i remember correctly).

If he needs the performance from more cores, skylake still remains irrelevant regardless of its support for ddr3/ddr4

Never mind then looks like i was wrong, just looked at pricing of ddr4 and it looks like it came way down in costs so yeah, my bad. If he wants to upgrade go with x99

Sorry was working on reformatting and updates and all that jazz.  I appreciate the suggestions, thankfully I already have a H100i so don't need a cooler unless the mounting is different for some stupid reason.  Is there any board (I'm usually ASUS) that is a little higher end than the X99-A by chance, or does it just go straight to the Deluxe?

Also been keeping an eye on Skylake, you think it would be at all worth it to wait for that instead of going H-E?  And yea for the moment I'm fine with my single 980, although Pascal is looking pretty nice from rumors.

Skylake e is really far away. I'm not sure how you use your system but i don't think you'll be happy getting rid of those extra cores and stepping down to z170. I'll look for another board right now.

Well I mainly use the system for gaming, but also work on websites, video editing, photo editing, and some level design/coding when I get the chance.  So the extra cores and RAM obviously helps.  And yea downgrading to consumer grade at this point is a no, especially considering my CPU right now can still outperform whats out there.

The sabertooth is the next step up. The deluxe still being almost $100 more.
