Windows Backup

Help! I used to have a windows 7 pc with hp shit on it (it was a pavilion) and I backed it up before I installed windows 8 and now the backup will fail to restore to windows 8. All the backup files are wims and it is backed up with cyberlink. I tried to do it on a old vista laptop and it kind of works but the hdd on it was small, plz help.
