cpu power

Go to solution Solved by catbedead,

Thanks very much. Most appreciated.

Hi, I am building a new pc and I am using the I5 4690k for my cpu and Msi z97 PC mate for mb. The thing doesnt start even tho the pci-e cable connector on the gpu lights up, so there propably is power in the system. The thing is that the pc doesnt boot, and I was wondering if it could be becouse of the 8 pin cpu power conector that I only have 4 pins for since I am useing an old 500 w psu from my old rig. Coud this be the problem??

If the motherboard has an 8 pin connector, and you only plug in a 4 pin, it doesn't work.

Pick up a new power supply and try again. :P

Thanks for the quick response. I'll head out now and get a new PSU.

I am looking at a corsair cx600m. Will that do the job?

You said you have a 4690k, what GPU do you have in the system?

Don't overclock with that PSU it should only be used for basic builds
