So I'm currently on windows 8 (Desktop) and have Windows 7 on my laptop.
I'm wondering if I should upgrade both to Win10.

I have heard that it will be faster (I would love that for my laptop sense it is my school CS computer) but I want other opinions.

Usually, there is no reason not to upgrade to a newer OS.. and definitly not when it is free and very easy to get as well.

The main reason for my laptop is boot time... 2-3 mins on startup is a bit slow for me. xD

I got 8.1 Pro on my PC and Win 7 on laptop. I plan on upgrading both to Win 10. It is faster in everything, including gaming, so why would I not want to utilize my hardware and have my PC/laptop work faster for free? :P

DX12 too, right? Isn't that supposed to make gaming better too?

Well yes, but only on games that support DX12. Installing a DX 11 game on a new OS that supports DX 12 doesn't automatically make it a DX 12 game.

However, there is something called WDDM 2.0 (Windows Display Driver Model) in Windows 10 that helps the GPU work faster so some DX 11 games benefit from it and you can see much higher framerates in those games on Windows 10 compared to Windows 8.1 (which uses WDDM 1.3) and older Windows releases.

Check it yourself on youtube, quite a few people have uploaded videos comparing the framerates on DX 11 games. :)

Ok, I've heard the good; what about the bad?

The only bad I know of at this time is the no-choice updates.
