Hey guys

I am going to uni this September, and I will need something small build as I am going to have a small desk

The plan is simple

i5 4690K with a Z97 board. I might (probably will) wait until Skylake, as it should be released this August, and I will be back in 20th of August as well, and until then I will spend a week at home

Other components:

8 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM from old build

XFX 550W Gold PSU from old build

SSD and HDD as well (or maybe swap HDD to an SSD? I will see)

GTX 770, with hopefully a water block if I can get one

Full EK watercooled loop with hardline

Phanteks Evolv ITX with dual 240 EK rad (case might change?)

I will start the build log either end of this month, but most likely in a month time

What do you think, what should I change here?

I would opt for a stronger GPU. Something akin to a R9 390 or R9 Fury (not the Fury X), to do your i5 justice.

The Sapphire Fury uses the same full length EKWB waterblock as FuryX, so you can use it in a custom loop.

it depends on the budget, if I can blow £500 on a new GPU. ATM I am happy with my GTX 770, for 1080p gaming it is plenty

Alternatively, you can get the R9 390X. It is a solid choice and does really well even at higher resolutions.

Same as above

I do not plan to buy a new graphics card for the sake of having a new GPU, as atm GTX 770 is plenty now

The only time  would consider buying it would be when the VR headsets will be released and my GPU will not cut it

And on that note. Check out AMDs Liquid VR.

If i were to put my money on a GPU "brand" then this is the technology i would bet on. That, and AMD is currently the GPU manufacturer reccomended by the Occulus team....

Just food for thought.

but then again nVidia has its own branded technologies and so far we have  no experience on it for the simple reason as VR headsets are not yet released

I will see the prices and my wallet at VR releases

Looks fine to me.

cheers
