So, I have this 19" monitor lying around which I plan to use as a second monitor for browsing/ts3 while gaming etc.

Thing is, It has a VGA output and so I need to get an adapter that converts it to either (mini-)DP or HDMI. These adapters are kind of expensive and hard to find so I rather skip that.

What I have is a VGA to DVI adapter so I tought maybe I could get an DVI to HDMI adapter to fit it in my graphics card. In this case I would be running with 2 adapters. VGA -> DVI -> HDMI.

I have 2 mini DP ports and those adapters are not even around in my country(normal DP is possible but then I'd have to run another DP-> mini-DP adapter so meh).

Will this even work? I have my doubt since it seems like an uncommon setup or something.

Yeah, it should work. However there may be some latency due to the analogue signal having to be converted to digital when the VGA converts to either DVI or HDMI.

I work a college IT job, and we have to do things like this occasionally. It's obviously going to hurt your latency and signal strength with all the converting going on, but for just browsing the web or having ts3 running, you should be fine!

No you cant convert vga to hdmi direct without using some sort of active conversion. The vga to dvi adapter you have is vga to dvi-i which has analog and digial out possibilities. HDMI carries essentially dvi-d which has no analogue component to it. Also the reason why the dp to vga adapter is so much is that its a active adapter meaning theres something in there changing digital signaling to analoge.

There wouldn't be any conversion as DVI-A is analogue anyway and HDMI can carry DVI signals without conversion? Correct me if I'm wrong but as I'm just drawing my own conclusions there

hdmi cant carry analog signals and youll almost never see dvi-a alone except for on the back of some vga to dvi adapters. Dvi-i was developed was back so that you could have digital connections withou sacrificing the ability to have analog ones. Now with dp we have other better was of dealing with this.

Like TheProfosist said that can't be done. A VGA cable can only be changed to a DVI-A with an adapter. This is DVI but it is still an analogue signal. HDMI is a digital signal so an expensive converter is needed.

The second monitor you want to use is VGA but what output is the monitor you're actually using? If it has a DVI output from the monitor then you could convert that screen to HDMI and convert the second screen to DVI-I. Let us know what GPU and screens (model number) you have

Don't think you can do that. The VGA is analogue and the HDMI digital, you need active conversion. That cost money.
yes and thats a more uncommon conversion, since he has dp he should just get a active adapter for that as their common comparitivly.

HDMI can only carry digital signals, so there would need to be some conversion.
