Programs not responding

i just built my first pic and I have a

Amd 6300 and stock clocks

970a gb motherboard

Evga Gtx 960 ssc 2g and stock settings

OS windows 7 64bit

My problems at the pc takes a while to start up fully and the background is black and everything I do on it does not respond. Never downloaded anything of the internet. Does any one know what the problem could be?

I'm thinking it is the hard drive that is wrong because I get a message saying the hard drive is under a lot of load and it pulls up a graph showing the usage.

I took a hard drive out a a xbox 360 slim external hard drive, which I know was a bad idea.
