So yesterday I posted a question whether me stopping the GPU fans by holding my finger on the center. I was investigating some noise and stopped each fan twice for abou 5-10 secs. They seem to be running normally from what I can tell with RPMs displayed by Aida64 being 1090 (1100 before but I'd blame that on other factors such as ambient temps, GPU temps and such). % is the same as before - 20. Fans seem to be stable as in not wobling or ratling so I guess that's okay. When booting up the PC no instability can be seen (they supposedly run at higher RPMs then). While in Shogun 2 temps seem similar to before @ 50-60% load the die is 63*C and the VRMs @ 59*C.

Thing is, they seem quieter than before. Is that possible or is it just that they are at 30% rather than 35% - then point when they are usually audible?

could be, in the future id HIGHLY advice against EVER putting your fingers or ANYTHING for that matter into the internals of your pc while its running!!!!!!! if your worried about something like the fans you can set them to 0rpm using software like msi afterburner. trying to stop them yourself can lead to damage to the fan and or voiding the warranty. more to the point your sticking your hand into a live circuit with id how many watts going through it. take it from a guy thats been zapped of a few power supplies. its NOT fun and depending on how high voltage your psu is could really hurt you!

Oh, I'm not touching the circuitry, I know that much. I agree that it was a dumb thing to do and will not do it again. Just hoping no damage was done.

dont need to touch the actual circuit to get zapped. you dont know what does and doesnt have power going through it and its better safe then sorry. as ive said ive been zapped off of quite a few PSUs and its NOT FUN.

Okay, point taken. Will refrain from touching anything while powered on.

good choice its common sense, trying to fix something minor isnt worth killing an entire motherboard, CPU, GPU or all three. also not worth the shock

Btw, do you think the fans are fine? They seem fine to me and I've had people telling me that they're okay and since they're brushless nothing really happened to them by my idiocy.

I swear sometimes my HTC One seems quieter then others playing the same song at the same volume... your ears are as much as a variable as the 5% fan speed

wtf... stopping your fans by putting your finger on the center is fine...

1. You won't damage the fan holding it for a few seconds

2. It will NOT void warranty (no idea where you heard this from)

3. Top of a fan is not a live circuit

4. Touching the top of a fan vs touching the inside of a power supply are two COMPLETELY different things.

You need to calm down man.

yeah i am very aware of that however as someone thats been stupid and tried to do things inside there case while the power was on and gotten zapped for it i still HIGHLY advice against trying anything while the power is on. yeah you can get away with it most of the time but its that one time you dont and you end up getting zapped and damaging your pc or yourself that matters. just trying to give common sense advice. cause believe me getting zapped of a 1000w power supply is NOT fun!
