Hey sup every1,

I work with 3D in Vancouver, moved here a couple year ago and been working from a laptop... everything was going ok, but it reaches a point when it starts to not being enough... and since i alrdy planned on getting a actual pc i had time to gather some money.

My main programs are 3DsMax, Maya, Zbrush, Mudbox, Photoshop, Nuke, After Effects... i dont do simulations much, but i would like to have the gear to do so, since it interests me... but not a must...

The laptop that i am using currently is a MSI GT70 with a 670GTX 3gb,  with 20gb ram, a intel SSD 256gb and a i7 3610QM processor. Its great and i love it, but its a laptop...

With the laptop i have a 13" Cintiq and a 24 IPS monitor from samsung (S24A850DW).

So, i would like another Samsung monitor (S24A850DW) for sure cause my workplace is getting crowded!

Could use some help been like 4y since i built my other workstation, so im a bit out of date!!

Things that i like.... Silence and performance.... and i do game a lot... but only in one of the monitors anyway... so only 1200p.

I dont care about showing off the pc, so no need for acrillic windows, neon lights etc... all the money goes towards performance not looks =)

Pieces that i though about so far:

Extra monitor:  Samsung (S24A850DW) to match the one i alrdy have

Processor:       i7 3930k  (Oced to 4.5-4.6Ghz)

Cooling:           Corsair H100i (????)

Extra fans:       Fractal silent series or Noctuas?

Video Card:     Nvidia Quadro k4000

Mobo:              Rampage series ??? maybe???

Mem:               Corsair Vengence? dont need over 1600 i think that it wouldnt add much for my apps

PSU:                No idea, i love corsair and i like having the spare power in case of future upgrades...

SSD:                Samsung 840 pro 256 for system and main programs

Case:              Lian li? i dunno, A75 was one that caught my eye, Fractal R4 too... i like stuff that r quiet and with a good flow... i like the look of Obsidian 800 and 900... cause they dont have too much information...

Prob getting it in 2 weeks,,,

Thanks a lot in advance!

Looks good, i don't know anything about the quadro series, but I could maybe give you some advice.

Looking at your programs, I would consider going 32GB of RAM (4 x 8GB sticks). If u do it like that, you will have headroom for upgrading to 64GB if it's needed.

For PSU go with something like Corsairs HX750 or higher (850 I guess) or their AX line of powersuplies. Other then that EVGAs PSUs are great either (SuperNOVA NEX750 / SUperNOVA 1000 G2)

Honestly, go what you think is best, all of those are great.

Fans: I'd definitely go with Noctuas, if you want silence.

Case: Silence? Fractal Design Define XL R2

Current Rig:    AMD FX 8350 @ 4.3GHz | Xigmatek Dark Knight Night Hawk Edition | ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z | ASUS AMD Radeon HD7950 | 16GB Corsair Vengeance Red 1866MHz RAM

EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750 Watt PSU | 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM | 128GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD | ASUS DVD Writer | CM Storm Trooper Windowed Edition

Peripherals:    BeyerDynamic Custom One Pro | Func MS3 | Steelseries QcK | Corsair Vengeance K70 Cherry MX Brown (on release)

Put something together, it's USD, I don't know how much it would cost in CAD.

Got the monitor, chose to go Titan, decided to go with 64GB from the begining, silence optimised

Fans: the one fractal would be placed in the front, the SP120s for the radiator, silent version.

Note: in this case you can only fit the H100i with one pair of fans, you can't use the OEM fans for push/pull

I upgraded some stuff because it was still fitting in the budget.

I understand you need a Quadro card for your work applications

Would you happen to know if current high end Geforce cards can also help you out? in terms of CUDA and OpenCL

(im thinking GTX 570 and higher)

I know most Adobe application support GPU acceleration

Only bringing this up in case you want to save some bucks and also since your quadro wont help you in terms of playing games

Phenom II X6 1090T @3.6ghz , EVGA GTX 770 SC, 8GB Hyper-X ram, Adata SX900, WD Black, Corsair HX850, LG IPS234, Logitech G9x, Logitech X-230, Netgear R7000

yeah i love corsair PSUs! Good to know about Noctuas then! and fractal R2 is a better option then R4 then?

And i really liked the build btw! tnx a lot!

But the only thing that i confused a bit is the Titan card, i use mostly maya wich is a OpenGL so cuda wouldnt benefitme much there... any1 have a idea about how would those other non Quadro cards hold up?

Cause from my experience,  stuff tend to run smoother at work where they use the quadro family... i never had one, always went for game series... but i do notice a large diference in viewport work.... justhate the price

About the fan positions, i would put the radiator one on the top and the 140 on the front?

and i dont intend usin the 2 fans on one side of the radiator and 2 on the other.... form what i read using just 2 fans is normally enought right?

And on the Build you made u used corsair silent series fans, r those better then Noctuas?

Exactly, the Corsairs and the Radiator in the top, and the additional 140 Fractal in the front.

Yes usually 2 Fans on one side is enough.

It doesn't really mater, you wont hear them. I chose them for aesthetic, but since you don't have a windowed sidepanel, you can go with Noctua NF-F12s aswell, it won't be a big difference.

Btw i chose the Define XL R2, because the R4 won't fit this motherboard, since it's eATX not ATX. But the XL R2 is not really different from the R4.

ok so i was checking:

Rampage Extreme

http://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_IV_EXTREME/

Rampage Formula

http://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_IV_FORMULA/

And it looks like the formula have a actual sound card with the card, and the only big difference is ammount of memory that they can handle?

Because i dont intend to buy a stand alone sound card >.<

And if thats the case, formula would fit on R4 being a  ATX not E-ATX right?

And i still havent decided on Titan or Quadro k4000, any1 have a good input on that?

At work they use the Quadro and i never felt the video card slowing me down, but every1 talks about titan lol so i am way confused on what to get!

Okkk, i might be ordering the pcs alrdy...

How does this sounds:

Processor:     Intel Core i7 3930k oced 4.6

Cooling:         Corsair H100i

Memory:         Corsair Vengeance Pro 32gb 4x8 1866

PSU:               Corsair AX860i

SSD:              Samsung 840 Pro 256GB

HD:                Seagate 1TB 64MB SSH (hybrid)

MOBO:           Rampage Gene

Case:             Corsair 350D

GPU:              Quadro K4000

I realized i can go mini atx without losing much since i dont need the extras PCI slots... i can live with only 3

The case i am not sure yet, i like quite a few.... 350D,650D, define r4, r2.... even Bitfenix Prodigy caught my eye they look sweet lol

For a X79 motherboard, you need a motherboard with 8x RAM slots.

Ram is Ram, price or if its newer dost not justify performance, you can go with a 1600MHz kit, but it needs to be a CL 9 or 8, this is what really matters for those kind of applications you work,

and surely an SSD. I'll try doing a plan.

And have you tried AMD FirePro ? It seems they are very competitive with nVidia Quadro

Yeah i checked the FirePro too! but the quadro i was getting is the newest release the K4000 not the 4000, nvidia has better autodesk support.... thats y i thought of going in this direction, And about the 8x Ram slots... y? currently i have 20 and never used it, got close, but never... i was going 4x8 for 32gb, the 8 slots would only be usefull to me if i was going 64gb right? if so i dont see me going that high in ram o.O

The speed of the ram i rly dont care about, 1600 or 1866.... but the 1866 is 4 bucks cheaper lol!

I only think that when you build something like this you need your rig to be future proof as possible, even for a X79, only 4x DIMMS is waste of a good chipset

Exactly and lga 2011 only justification are more cores in CPU, much more pcie lanes, much higher ram capacity and quad channel ram. You lose 3 out of 4 here with smaller boards.

Also I believe titan is a descendant of Tesla gpus and newest quadro was built with GK110 as well so I think Titan should perform slightly worse than the quadro you mentioned yet in gaming it would destroy. As long as you are not rendering a whole lot 24h/7 because if you are then quadro is a must for quadro are built to survive 24/7... Normal gpus aren't. and you get quadro drivers and guaranteed compatibility.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?
