Domain Name Transfer

I'm trying to move a domain name from one registrar to another. When I initiated the transfer on Wednesday, I asked how long it would take. I was told 24-48 hours.

2 Days later, the domain transfer has still not completed. I ask what the problem is, and I'm now told to wait another 5-7 days (and I assume they mean working days, so with the weekend it will be 7-9 days).

Is this usual?

I'm moving from names.co.uk to 1&1.

The spec says it can take up to twelve BUSINESS days (ie, Monday through friday) . It's usually much faster, but I've seen it take two weeks for a transfer.

It's also an automated process. There's nothing that either side can do (losing or winning registrar)
