I'm trying to stay under $1,400

It's for gaming

And I live in GA

an i7-4790 would still be easy good enough for gaming, you don't need a k-series unless you just like to overclock things for the sake of liking to overclock.

i have a (non K) 4790 on a Z-87 m/board and its awesome. it will save you a good 50 bucks. got mine from NCIX

you also wont need a ROG m/board again unless you can afford to and like to do extreme o/c.

don't listen to the others about a 4690k a 4790 non k is better in my opinion as its got hyperthreading :) and can easy do more than what you need for gaming.

its like putting a Nascar engine in a family car and can eat anything you throw at it, chew it up and spit it out.

unless you are going for 4K or mulit screen gaming then look at X99.

for a single 24" 1080p gaming the 4790 is a good buy. (4690k is the cheap mans cpu) shots fired haha

got to love Asus components

Yea I can for sure wait then, that's no biggie, so I'm assuming these new CPUs will be faster and better right? Not just wire-less

Faster? Meh. New intel CPUs usually have their TDP reduced and better onboard graphic, the actual pref increase compare to haswell refresh is not significant, but their price remain the same

Okay man, thanks for the info I'll definitely wait for Skylake

Just to make sure, a 980 Ti 6G wouldn't bottleneck a 4790 correct?

Actually it wouldn't really matter because I'm not getting a 4790 I'm waiting for Skylake

So do we have any idea how much a Skylake CPU and Z170 mobo will cost?

Z170 will be a little more expensive than Z97 at release

But CPU's price will be pretty much the same to HR

I mean even if Skylake did come out while I'm building my PC couldn't I just buy the parts I plan on using, I could really care less about the whole wire thing, I'm very good with cable management, it's not a big deal, or does Skylake somehow affect wired parts too? Sorry if I sound stupid on this subject, I just looked up a summary of what it basically is

I have no idea where you're getting your information, but Skylake is NOT wireless. I have no idea at all where you heard that. Skylake will be in all likelihood a 5-10% increase in performance/drop in TDP from Haswell & Broadwell. Is it worth the extra money? Well possibly and possibly not.

Just to clear out, the i5-4690k and the i7-4790k are code named Devil's Canyon but are also a part of Haswell Refresh (HR). The i7-4770k is just like the i7-4790k except that the 4770k is Haswell, so it's older and draws more power for a bit less performance. The i7-5775C is Broadwell, which is the newest released right now. But from what we can see so far, it's actually worse than Devil's Canyon/Haswell Refresh overclocking wise. Skylake is the step after Broadwell.

So the CPU evolution goes: Haswell -> Haswell Refresh -> Broadwell -> Skylake (Coming out Q4 2015)

But really, the only two things you should care about is Devil's Canyon (Haswell Refresh) and Skylake.

Whatever place told you that Skylake is wireless or it spawns aliens or whatever else they said is obviously wrong. It's just another step in Intel CPUs.

What my opinion on this is? Get a Z97-E board or similar run of the mill Z97 board (not a Maximus VI) and get a i7-4790k to go with it. I'll make you a build list in a little while.

Here's what I came up with, this build will kill every game out there on 1080p and 1440p. Some games can be run at 4K as well with this. If you have to stay below $1400 then you can get a 128GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD instead of the 256GB one that I put in it.

Thanks for the parts list! The only thing is, I was looking at the dimensions of the case and the 980 Ti would be sticking out the side of the case? Idk maybe I was looking at the dimensions wrong

The case can fit a graphics card up to 13.15" without removing the drive cages. The 980 Ti is 10.51". It'll fit with plenty of room.

Ok thanks, and Is it worth going for the MSI GTX 980 Ti 6G? Or should I go with EVGA, I was just asking about the 6G 980 Ti because it has higher clock speed

can you give us a bit more info on like:

where your buying from

form factor size preference

needs for the rig (think you already said gaming)

budget

monitor setup

this should give people a better idea of what you can get for the price and if you need a fully overclock or a non overclock system.

If your only using one monitor then a GTX970 would be good enough and put the saved money into other components.

get the best you can afford now, as there is always going to be the next gen, unless the next gen is very close to launch and is better / cheaper etc. sometimes you can even save by going back a gen like a Z87 m/board which will have nice features and you can put a non K cpu on there and have a good rig not having to worry about overclocking and messing about.

a lot of the time its all about matching the right components with each other to get the best from a system.

If you go Z97 you can get Sata express and M.2 so can save having to have a separate hard drive and cables making it neat. also people now are using pci-e SSD hard drives, again saves cables.

got to love Asus components

Yes.

Ok man, thanks for the advice, the things a 14 year old has to do for money, my mom now lives on a farm and I've been having to like do things that are pretty nasty, but man I need money, I've made $332 so far this month, I'm estimating I'll make around $500, is that good for one month? (again, I'm 14, can't really get like a real job)

Well I've kinda got things set in stone now as of what I want, I will be running atleast dual monitors, and what I'm getting is within my budget, if you want I could tell you what my new ideas are for the build

I was lucky enough to have my rig paid for when I was 13 for Christmas. I can say though, $500 is very good in one month for not having a proper job. You'll have enough money in about 2.5 months to afford the build I laid out for you :)

Lol tbh I was thinking if I don't continue to make that much a month and if I don't have enough for everything by Christmas I'll just ask for the rest of the money for Christmas, the only thing is I live with my dad and he thinks this PC is a waste of time and money and work, so I'm not gonna be earning much from him

Ahh.. Well even if you don't hit $500 a month consistently you could still get enough money by Black Friday basically guaranteed.
