So i decide to give LoL a try and what seems odd is occasionally I'd get an FPS dip into the 40s and then back to a solid 60.

Is this a game/ping issue or is it something on my end? Temps are all fine and other games seem to be acting normally. At least, I've not noticed frame drips in them. When me and my friend play Shogun 2 we do get stuttering with large unit sizes but I blame that on his old Athlon rather than my setup or the game.

Could be cpu, what are specs and temperatures.

Specs are in sig and temps never go above 45*C on GPU and 40*C on CPU. It's running cold as fuck. I'm inclined to blame me running skype while playing. Some people are complaining quite a lot about it ruining frames and my mate's game wouldn't download at more than 10 kb/s while having skype open. Close skype and boom, 1.2k kb/s. It's something about it running off of port 80 or something.

If you're using an i5-4590 and a 280 that shouldn't happen. Are you using VSync? That makes weird FPS issues. Try disabling VSync ingame and in your GPU control panel, then set the ingame FPS limit to 80fps

Oh, yeah. Using it cause of tearing. (300 fps causes some :D). I set the fps to unlimited (that was causing issue for me in witcher 3) and turned on Vsync. Probably that.

honestly not sure, normally internet does mess with fps but, im not sure. Of you a i5 and 280 you should be getting 60 fps easy.

If you limit at 80fps the tearing isn't even noticeable :)

It was set to unlimited with vsych off and tearing was horrendous. Not sure, will experiment. But yeah, LoL optimization definitely takes a back seat to Dota 2 in my eyes. Never had issues maintaining solid 60 on an old Athlon II and 6850.

LoL is very well optimized for all hardware, but VSync is awful and uncapping your FPS gives you screen tearing. There is an option in LoL to have VSync off, and cap the FPS. Set the FPS cap slider to 80fps and there won't be screen tearing or lag

Well, if the Vsync option doesn't work well, that's one point deducted at least in terms of optimization. I've honestly never seen a game before that has Vsync take a dump on FPS.

In every game I've ever played VSync tanks FPS. Anyways, did disabling VSync fix the FPS drops?

It's 1:30 AM atm so will check tomorrow. But yeah, while it does tank fps a bit, it usually is by about 5 fps and that's only when my game is running at 62fps in general. If I'm getting 80 or more, i never even notice it. With LoL, I should be getting about 200-300 fps from what I've read and even if Vsync were to be rendering an ocean in the background, it should still be above 60.
