So I have a case fan that seems like it's going dry. It's making a slight clicking noise every now and again (It's fairly queit, need to be next to it to hear). My question is, how long will it last before dying since I'm currently unable to buy WD40 or anything else. Uni taxes ._.

Usually fans don't just die that easily.

If the clicking noise just started than it will take usually a long time until it actually doesn't spin up anymore, if it even happens at all.

I guess but still, how long can it hold out?

Well, my case fan seems to be spinning fine for now. What's actually more worrying for me is that the PSU also recently started making a click/tick, I pushed on the center of the fan it seems to have become less frequent. It's only 3 weeks old ._.

Okay, that's creepy xD

At any rate, I seem to remember Linus saying that Double Ball Bearings don't fail instantly and usually get loud/show signs before doing so.

WD40 is not a good bearing lubricant.

At any rate, I guess that if it's so quiet I shouldn't worry about it randomly stopping :D

WD40 is not a good bearing lubricant.

To add to this: it has a very low flash point compared to actual oil, like 50c. I used some sewing machine oil (flash point like 200c) in some noisey fans last year then gave them to a friend and replaced with better. They are still working and quiet.

I'll mention this too since you thought WD40 was a good fan lube, you peel the sticker off the back and pop out the rubber insert to lube it, don't hose down the coil from the outside.
