Mic not detecting

So after suffering through my friend's quite frankly poor voice quality due to her using a PS Eye (the one from the PS2), it functioned but wasn't great, I decided to give her my old headset. This is due to my having upgraded to a Kingston HyperX Cloud (which is awesome).

The old headset is only about 4-5 months old and is from this bundle. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't too bad either. http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/peripherals/keyboards/gaming/ekm806regb-iu.html

Just to clarify, the headset was working when I had last used it, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the headset itself. When she plugged the headset in to both microphone and headphone jacks, she tested it and found the mic to be not working. After a brief conversation with her (I will be doing a join.me session with her briefly), I think the problem is that Windows (she's running 7) cannot detect the microphone for some reason. It was able to detect the microphone on the PS Eye, which was a USB interface, but mic via jack does not work.

Anybody got some ideas? Google searching didn't really come up with anything solid.
