I'm building my first Desktop in 10 years.. I have a build log going but would also like some recommendations on GPUs. I have always been a TEAM BLUE player (intel/nVidia) BUT this time around I am going to try THE RED TEAM for the first time (so no nvidia cards please.)

I am liking the sound of a Club 3D r9 380 4gb, any one have any experience with this card or any suggestions?

Budget for GPU - $300 CAD MAX

hell as long as it isn't a FX CPU. The GPU's are fine from AMD the CPU's on the other hand are crummy

Fx-8320, it will be OC'd, I do other things besides gaming such as some minor music creation and video editing, the core count to price is hard to pass up for multitasking purposes.

It would be better with an intel CPU. but whatever your money wasted..

thats not the point of the build. I thought I made that clear enough, but I guess not

I know what your point of the build is. Its to " Try " Team red. Which I personally wouldn't do.

the 8320 is not a bad cpu. it may not compare to some of the intel ones, but it has its uses

in terms of a gpu, i would spend a little extra money to get the 4gb version of the r9 380

Gigabyte GV-R938G1 GAMING-4GD

solid choice above under 300 bucks

I have a crummy FX CPU because I wasn't informed enough and went with it becaue I thought it was good because of the tecksydicate and Austin Evans

i am looking at the 4GB version only club 3d, looking at the specs between them they are the same price.. same gpu clock basically.. club 3d's memory clock is higher..

but what are you using the system for? strictly gaming?? if so i would use intel. but this system will be used for minor music creation and video production, as well as a streaming machine, so the cores out weigh the performance for me, not to mention im on a sandy bridge 2670qm.. so either way it will be an improvement :P

The Fx cpus aren't bad per say, they're just old. They can compete pretty well in multi threaded tasks, plus DX12 should breathe some life back into them. Also, try getting a 290 or a 390, if not then the 380 will be fine.

I was wanting the 390 but it is too long for the case/cooler i have on its way :(  (2 series cards use too much power for the temp psu i will be running)  so i was looking at the 380 series (or that length card) just wondering who else makes solid cards as the last GPU i had was a BFG 512mb :P

i trust gigabyte over club 3d. memory clock isn't all that important. core clock is king. yes, memory clock will help, but when you overclock, you do the core first and then the memory
