Are there any quiet heatsink/fans that fit the mounting holes for LGA 771? Would a Hyper 212 Evo fit?

That's a pretty old socket. I would invest in a new CPU/mobo before you go out buying aftermarket coolers.

 

EDIT: Also, no a 212 isn't listed to fit that socket

That's a pretty old socket. I would invest in a new CPU/mobo before you go out buying aftermarket coolers.

 

EDIT: Also, no a 212 isn't listed to fit that socket

I just did some work on an LGA 771 system that needed a new CPU cooler and bought this one

Good cooler especially for a Xeon.

I don't see any reason why he would want to move to a new or different platform. If he wanted to he would have stated that.

Any cooler that fits LGA 775 will fit LGA 771.

Nope, totally different from each other. Most 771 boards I know of, the heatsink bolts through the motherboard to the actual chassis or a custom plate.

 

In any case the hole spacing is completely different from 775.
