Hello, i have a MSI X58 pro-e motherboard and an intel core i7 920 cpu. i have been trying to get the cpu to 4ghz on this motherboard and it has been successful. However, there is a big problem. The problem is that my motherboard runs the cpu at 1.4 volts when it is at 4ghz and that causes the cpu to overheat. The motherboards cpu voltage option in the bios is set as auto and is grayed out so it cant be changed. After doing some searching, i have found that someone else was having the same problem but the best answer was not very good as it told the person to download msi's software OC utility which crashes the whole system when anything is changed. sorry for the long story.

Thanks in Advance, Nathan

When you say "crashes the whole system when anything is changed,"   what exactly are you changing?

For example, when I run Gigabyte's OC utility,  and try to change the multiplier without giving it enough Vcore, it will crash the whole system.  For example, on my G3258, if I try to go to 4.4ghz (44 multiplier) using the utility without increasing the Vcore to at least 1.17, I get a blue screen of death instantly.

Have you tried using the utility to go to 4.0 ghz @ 1.4 volts, and see if it will remain on similar to the bios setting?
