I wanna build a NAS server and use it as an htpc too in the living room. Any suggestions on the parts I should use?

Don't repeat my mistake and use same machine as NAS and HTCP. HDD noise will kill all the fun in HTPC.

I managed to put 4 drives in Node 304. That ends up in pretty noisy and warm box. There aren't much small, silent cases. Getting something like Define R5 might be ok for NAS, but is bulky for HTPC. If i would do it now, I would get two boxes, one tower for NAS to hide somewhere in closet and something like Intel Nuc for HTPC (watching movies over Plex and playing light or streaming heavier games over Steam)

There is no "silent" pc case, they are all pretty much the same, when you have 1 or more hdds (because of vibrations).

Yes, you can setup a htpc on the same machine, it would be better even in terms of power consumption and free space into your house.
