Basically nothing right now will use more than 4GB of VRAM at 1080p

Hell, only games like GTAV and Shadow of Mordor will try to fill up more than your 3.5GB. You're fine.

Only poorly made or very high end games will use a lot of vram.

E.g. Witcher 3 will use less than 2GB maxxed out (without hairworks)

Not at all. 970 is a great gpu! Also 970 sli is slightly better performance than a 980ti so you can upgrade down the line cheaper than a new gpu

In 2+ years i might upgrade, should i get another 970 for sli or a better card?

in 2+ years, a new GPU will be the right choice because the 970 will be outdated and outclassed.

2 years is a lot of time I would get a better card, some more options for a 980ti will be available too

In the tech industry? Yes

I mean, if you had a GTX 670 now, you wouldn't ever consider getting a second one with the current cards available. That's basically the scenario you're looking at since the 670 is a 2 year old GPU.

Dual GPU setups are really silly for people who aren't trying to do ridiculous things like driving a 4k or 144hz panel on very demanding games. Most people with 144hz panels are just using them for CS:GO which any mid-level GPU can do solo.

I re read his comment I misunderstood. Yes I will not SLI in 2 years I will get a better, modern card.
