I decided to try F@H at least once. Even though I only completed 1 Work Unit, I still feel accomplished.

The Hardware used was a PNY XLR8 GTX 970 @ stock clocks, folding with Core 18 (unfamiliar w/ most terminology, be patient with me). Average PPD was about 18800 +/- 60. Because it's a blower cooler, I ran the fan rather hard to keep it cool-ish(80% fan speed, ~3500 RPM, max temp 71 C).  Despite all that, due to the cost of power here in Southern California, this will probably be my only time folding until I end up moving somewhere cheaper.

Soooo... Hello and goodbye, I guess.

Just curious, what is the price per KWh there?

Fairly more expensive compared to the rest of the US. There are 4 tiers which you pay depending on how much electricity you use, I think we're tier 2 at 19 cents per KWh (I don't know for sure, living with mom). Although considering how much the last few bills were (summer is usually the worst), either we're a higher tier or they are charging extra just because they can. But whatever the tier/plan, I guess it to be no less than 15 cents per KWh and no more than 23 cents per kWh.

Edit 8-7-15: To anyone coming across this post, the cost of electricity in Southern CA during the summer is 31 cents per kWh (Tier 4 by default due to running AC). In other words, get out of California if you can.

Sadly it does increase power 2 ways, from the system and the AC in the summer.... Come back to us in the winter time when power cost is low and you will only be helping your funace heat your house!!!

I notice it quite a bit but mostly fold at night so it doesnt affect my house heat as much and the power is lower cost at night.
