Bizarre hard drive issue

Bizarre because HD testing programs report everything as being OK when clearly something is up. HDTune's error check comes back all clear., and the benchmark reports normal read/write speeds. Crystaldiskinfo says the same thing.

Yet when I actually try to use the drive, it throws a wobbly. I'm getting abysmal speeds of 1-2MB/s transferring large mkv files over USB 3.0, and they never even finish because halfway through everything will just freeze. Teracopy and Windows Explorer both seize up until the drive is unplugged.

It's quite an old drive that has been used quite heavily since 2008, so I'm not that bothered, but it's puzzling me that the testing tools think everything is fine when it isn't.

Could be a sign of a driver issue, software or even chipset failure on the drive itself. I'd try the HDD in another PC or USB port.
