Hey guys,

I have a USB stick with some important data on it. Two days ago, the drive was working and I was able to write to it. However today I tried to plug it in and it would not show up and the led on the stick did not light up.

Can anybody help me? The model is an 8GB Freecom databar.

Thanks!

Max

CONGRATULATIONS!

It is broke.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this does happen to them in time. These types of drives do have a limited lifetime. I have had many fail in the past. I have learned the lesson of not keeping ANYTHING on them without a duplicate somewhere else. There is a reason for and the logic of the term backup. You could possibly fix it with Linux but in all of the failures that I have had on USB thumb drives, I have never been able to recover squat. I am very experienced with data recovery and USB thumb drives do not have a good recovery rate with anyone.

SORRY

Did I help you to fix your problem or at least did offer somewhat valuable advice? Consider giving my post a "informative" or "thumbs up".

If that is the case. Then i'm in trouble, that USB drive had designs for a laser etch for my pc ;( Gawd, now I have to spend 3 more hours redoing it.

You mentioned being able to recover it with Linux, could you post a link about that. I would really at least like to try.

Thanks for the comic sans. That made me cry.

Does it show up in disk management?

If not, try it in another PC.

If yes, you can try to recover the data.

Try Recuva first, and if that finds nothing, i've been looking at a program called AOMEI Partition assistant for a review.

It has a partition recovery option that i've yet to try, but it might work.
