I dont think it matters, people will still go to nvidia because amd just runs /soooo/ hot and it eats /soooo/ much power...which in the long term doesnt matter and I doubt you'll notice anyways (nor is it as bad as everyone says it is) I do think nvidia should drop the price, but I can assure you no matter the price, everyone will run to nvidia anyways because amd is just some horrible company in most peoples eyes for some dumb reason.

The 390 pulls ahead by ~2-4% in most games at stock, while consuming ~20% more power (Per JayZ2cent's video and Andantech's/ Tom's power test). The 390 would probably end up being the same price as the 970 in less than a year.

I would personally get a 970 if you're on 1080p or 1440p because of Gameworks  and such, but a 390 is a great choice too! Especially if you're on 4K.

Ughmmm... That's in the short term that it doesn't matter... I remember someone making a post showing a 290x vs a 980 would result in about 50$ more expensive power a year... If someone kept a rig for a while, then it would add up and getting the more power efficient would be a better choice.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

Agreed. Some people are just incredibly loyal to the green team as well as people are loyal to AMD. To me it doesn't make a difference I just go for the best price to performance and right now I sort of believe that AMD has this range.

Long term power costs are a very viable reason to go with the more power efficient maxwell gpus from Nvidia. Until AMD gets their act together people will still continue to look down on them for their horrible power efficiency.

AMD has their frame rates under control, and both temps and power usage have dropped. Reason: limiting FPS. Right now, it is available for all the radeon 200 and 300 cards. This was tested by TweakTown: http://www.tweaktown.com/news/42073/amds-dynamic-frame-rate-control-mind-blowing-power-savings/index.html

You can even see by the url, that something is denoted (hint, mind-blowing-power-saving)

Yes, I am a tiny bit of an AMD fanboy (only a little bit though, mind you. I still can reccomend NVIDIA cards, without staining my conscience  ;)  )

interesting read. Didn't even know that sort of thing existed. Very cool though.

Power consumption sways significantly in favor for the 970, performance and Vram however the 390 is objectively better. The cost is more or less the same, 10-20USD variation at most depending on which brand. You decide which is more important.
