So, I just bought a new (used) gpu for my system..my 760 was getting a bit to weak, and I found a 780 for $230. I thought it wasn't a bad deal, so now I am left wondering..should I overclock? It's an MSI Twin Frozr OC Edition. I never really overclocked any gpu's before besides my old 550 ti, and my brothers 250x.

Do you guys know of any GOOD tutorials for overclocking GPU's? Sorry. Major n00b here.

Thanks so much, especially if you don't yell at me for not grabbing a 970.

Not much to OCing a GPU. Much easier than a CPU...

I don't understand the question though, are you wanting to overclock the 760 or the 780? If it's the 780 than yes. Unless of course you don't feel as if it's necessary. So if you can max out all the games you want at 60FPS I wouldn't bother OCing.

But of course, it's a free improvement so why not?

Just see how it performs at stock speeds. If it doesn't meet what you want, OC it. I heard the 780 is a good card for OCing. And the Twin Frozr cooler will help!

The overclocking process for GPU is so straightforward these days that prettymuch any up to date turotial of any sort will do.

On the question of whether you should or not, there is nothing really disadvantageous apart from

1. Increased power consumption: Not like you will be billed way more for electricity, but it does increase your usage a little bit.

2. Increased temperature: This may cause your other components to be less stable (if you overclocked your CPU to absolute maximum and are already thermal limited)

3. Decreased lifespan of the GPU: You WILL decrease the lifespan of the GPU if you overclock it, but unless you are trying to use the card for more than 4 years or something, it would not matter at all. Especially the fact that the cycle of cards these days are like 1 year.

I plan to grab an NZXT water cooler soon. I have a spare asetec cooler laying around. But I also don't plan to keep this for more than a year or more.
