Is a 500w bronze PSU enough to power both a 970 and a 4790 (I'm going to OC the 970 a bit too.)

 

As far as I know it should be enough, just trying to reassure my worrywart of a mind

Bronze? It works but usually when you OC the CPU, but for GPU and CPU its better to get a Silver minimum, Gold to be safe. Just personal preference, do correct if I'm wrong anyone.

What PSU? If it's what I think it is (low-end EVGA) then you should get something else. Otherwise it is plenty of wattage.

Very common question, lemme take the same quote that I out on my last post. I am guessing you are going with an EVGA 500W Bronze, which is horrible quality. You wouldnt want to fuel your Ferrari with Petrol someone is selling off the street would you? Same thing with a computer. Get this PSU it is OEM'd by a quality PSU manufacturer. P.S I stole that quote sorry

Let's just say I would trust a seasonic 80+ bronze with a 10,000$ rig, build quality has nothing to do with efficiency.

My knowledge for PSU doesn't go as far, I just picked the amount of wattage I thought was reasonable. I look at Seasonic as a brand that produces very high quality build PSUs. The way I kinda compare things is, a Gold 500W ThermalTake is equivalent to a Bronze 500W Corsair? Idk it's just how I look at it.

Well I guess I should buy something better like a corsair RM but since it's the only psu on-hand I should just try it when the parts arrive and test it out. Then buy a better one when I get the money hopefully nothing goes horribly wrong.

oh and some of the others were a bit confused I bought a 4790 not a 4790k so I won't be doing any OC for this one.

 

this is for my brothers build so OCing the  gpu isn't necessary

Corsair RM is meh. For the ripoff price of the RM, you can usually get EVGA G2, XFX XTR, EVGA B2 which are all better.

Don't forget the EVGA GS series, they are seasonic PSU's with a EVGA sticker on the side.
