Port forwarding not forwarding..

So I've got a rather interesting issue that I cannot seem to solve. I've been trying to setup port forwarding for VSK 5 that requires 2350 and 3450.

  • I've added the ports onto the modem (NetComm NB14) to point to 10.0.0.8 - the PC from which it will be running.
  • I've added the ports onto the router (NetGear WRN2000) to point to 10.0.0.8.
  • On the router, I've set the internal and external ports as identical for the two entires.
  • I've added the exceptions to the firewall.

However, it does not work. Anyone got any ideas?

Have you disabled modems firewall, and enabled port forwarding?

Also is your NAT open?

As far as I've looked there isn't any firewall on the modem and yes, I've forwarded the ports on the modem to 10.0.0.8.

As for the NAT, I do not know and cannot find it in the settings though isn't that only applicable in situations where you have more than 1 physical port?

The best solution is to disable routing on the modem side and run the modem in bridge mode. In that case, your router will do all the routing and your modem will only change xDSL signal into Ethernet signal meaning you won't have to open ports on 2 different routers. Also, it should be more efficient since every device is assigned one task instead of doing everything at the same time.

I had an issue like this when using my D-Link router as an extender to my AT&T one, the fix for me was, don't use the extender, and just use a hub connected to the router.

I don't quite understand what are you trying to achieve.

What is the reason you need to forward ports for VSK-5?

What is the layout of your local network (Modem>router>Switch) ?

Are you looking for an outside access?

Did you look into a DMZ?

  • 2 weeks later...

To clarify, I go modem (NetComm NB14) -> Router (Netgear WRN2000) -> devices.

I've put the modem into bridge mode and forwarded the ports on the router to the ones they should be. Note that I set the internal and external ports as the same. I've also dealt with all the firewalls.

However it still does not work.Ideas?
