CPU Power Connector

Go to solution Solved by Redsun20,

Hi, I ordered a motherboard for a current build and just realized that the motherboard has a 8x connector for cpu power, but the power supply only has a 4x connector for cpu power. Will I need a different motherboard with a 4x connector, or should this one work fine? I am going to be using an i5-4460, and here is a link to the motherboard. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gab85mgaming3

Yes you can. Those pins are only for extra power, so I you only have 4 you're ok, but if you have a high power consumption chip (you don't) and you are overclocking, you are going to want an 8 pin

Yeah, you can use only 4 pins.

I had the same problem haha, my manual wasn't specific enough, iirc I just used an 8 pin that wasn't labeled CPU or I might've taken 2 4 pins (probably the latter, can't check at the moment, sorry).
