So I ran into a first for me but apparently "somewhat" common issue with my old Z68 board.  I had an ASUS Z68 V-Pro and a 2500k which I put into a HTPC case. I was planning to just use the iGPU with onboard HDMI but when I tried to boot, No signal.  

 

I grabbed a 5770, got into the BIOS fine but all my options in System Agent Configuration are missing, no iGPU.

I couldn't enable XMP to put my ram at 1600 without getting a failed overclock POST, Internal PLL overvoltage and Turbo ratio were completely missing as well.

I was using the final BIOS revision ASUS put out for the board, downgrading and reflashing netted no change.

 

I was confused at this point as the board was working before I upgrade to my current build, nothing had changed.  GoogleFu led me to a hardforum post where people were having the same issues after a failed overclock, the solution involved completely erasing the entire BIOS in windows and rewriting it with the ROM file.

 

Have any of you experienced something like this?

 

Long story short, BIOS somehow corrupted from possible past overclock and had to be completely rewritten using Intel FTK (Flash Toolkit)

I had this on my P8Z77-V and I had to use FTK and FD44 editor (to copy serials and stuff).

is the serials part due to Windows assigning the key to the motherboard?

That and warranty, I just followed a set of instructions i found somewhere, I think it was a russian site.

I had a similar issue with a Z77 board. Completely locked out of OCing with a K SKU. Ended up using an American Megatrend's BIOS re-writing utility. Extremely risky since it launches in DOS or OS, but it worked. Safest thing would be to get your hands on a BIOS chip and replace it manually (if the board allows).

i actually tried the AMIFLASH utility first but it was saying that my BIOS didn't support full rewrite, which lead me to Intel FTK eventually solving the problem.  Everything overclocks properly again, I ended up leaving the 5770 in anyways as it will outperform the HD3000
