So, I need to know before I buy this build. Is the AMD 760G chipset motherboard is compatible with the graphics card Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC. I am also putting my build in here in case someone sees a problem with it.

GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5 GHz (4.1 Turbo)

motherboard : 760G chipset

power supply: EVGA 220-G2-0750-XR 80 PLUS GOLD 750 W 10 yr Warranty ECO Mode Fully Modular NVIDIA SLI Ready and Crossfire Support

what is the specific motherboard.....And if your motherboard doesn't support SLI, and Xfire, then it really doesn't matter if your PSU does.

Might be compatibility issues. apparently the 760 series only supported AM3+ if it had a modified bios. Any more info you'll have to wait till one of our many helpful AMD enthusiasts chimes in.

I would imagine that the board would support your card, but the 760G chipset might not be your best choice.

For AM3+ boards, the only "real" chipset is the 900 series. The 800 series simply had modified BIOS that allowed them to run AM3+, and I would imagine the same happened for the 700 series.

If you're going mATX, your best choice is going to be an ASRock 970M Pro3. the 970M is designed for mobile, but it's the best I could find.

If you're going ATX, you have a wider variety to choose from:

-ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0

-MSI 970A-G46

-MSI 970 GAMING

And yes, the 900 series does support your card.

Also, I found this that will help you understand and back-up me knowledge: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=214344

"There's only one true AM3+ chipset, and that's that 9XX series. The 8XX series boards that support AM3+ only do so because they have a modified BIOS, not because they were meant to support it to begin with. The 9XX boards also use a different system for power regulation, so if you're planning on overclocking, the 8XX boards may not take kindly to it. The 9XX chipset also features a faster HyperTransport, 3.1 vs 3.0. As for a breakdown of the chipset, it goes like this: Chipsets with no designation do not supposrt Crosfire or SLI. G chipsets have onboard graphics, typically featuring a PCI-e x16 slot. M chipsets have onboard graphics, typically featuring a PCI-e x16 slot. These are designed for mobile processors GX chipsets have onboard graphics, typically featuring a PCI-e x16 slot. Supports Crossfire by also utilizing onboard graphics. X chipsets also have PCI-e x16 slots, but typically feature two of them. Supports Crossfire. FX chipsets also have PCI-e x16 slots, but typically feature four of them. Supports Crossfire. Also the only chipset that supports quad graphics."

Thank you Zonus! That does answer my question in a more detailed manner. But at the same time and to be honest I am still confused with all these motherboard names. I'm still trying to understand how to read these names. but i will definitely check out the motherboard you suggested. And I am going for a normal sized motherboard, not really a mini.

yeah i'd be careful of combo deals. sometimes retailers have a bunch of stuff that isn't selling so they slap them together in a combo, the thing is that the 760g chipset for am3+ motherboards dates back to the phenom II line of cpus, so it is hardly ideal even with bios support for an fx cpu. that said, the 6300 should do ok on that motherboard. but if possible i'd get a 970 chipset at least.

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

You're welcome, glad I could be helpful!

It takes some time to figure out, but you'll get the hang of it eventually. :)
