My friend recently had his laptop get screwed by a virus or something, and now every time he starts up the pc it goes into a repair state using ASUS preload wizard which than fails as it cannot find an important file.

I cannot just reinstall windows because he has some extremely important work stuff on the laptop that he needs to save, so i am wondering what i can do to fix this issue.

The laptop is an ASUS R500VD.

and i cannot use the recovery disk that came with the pc as my friend does not have it anymore

Try removing the hard drive, putting it in a working PC, get the important files off it, and then reformat it and reinstall windows.

unfortunatly i cannot remove the hdd as it cannot be removed without drilling out some stupid riveted in braces running across the drive
