Follow the instructions. If the backplate is made of metal you don't want it to touch the back of the motherboard. Are you sure it's compatible with your socket?

I Just installed one of these yesterday. one of the backplates is for intel the otherone is for amd. u pick the one u have and put the bolts in the front and the the backplate. the u use the plate that cross over eachother and put it in the posistion where it lines up with the whole on your motherboard

I only had one backplate, it was a old revision, ill drop my computer off at the local store and see if they can get it to fit, if not we will see other options
