Buddy wanted a PC so bad to replace his piece of shit laptop. Knew I loved building so he asked me for advise. He told me he wanted to spend 400-500 then somehow boosted the budget to 700 then he texted one day and said 1.2k+. When he said 400-500, I was thinking of a G3258, cheap OC mobo, cheap ram and a used 280X or 290. $700? Possibly some i3, used 280X - 290 range. Told him that if he can bump up to 1.3 it would be perfect. So what did I come up with?!

Was thinking of getting him a i5-4460 but he wanted a red motherboard so I told him, get a unlocked

CPU, it'll make most use of the board.

Heres what i would have done just in comparison

Most of the things he picked were purely because he just likes it cuz what it is, as for the prices? He wanted it to be built within 24 hours, so my only 2 places that I could buy parts right away were NCIX and Memory Express.. The Corsair SPEC-02 cannot compete with the H440 in build quality or space. The PSU he has is certainly better than the CoolMax. He also prefers a quiet and cool graphics card.

That's Cute.... I don't think anything from Nvidia or AMD will run under 68c at load.

Not really actually, he has enough for a the highest Xeon and 4-Way SLI TitanX's. But obviously youre not gonna spend your life savings (some do but he isn't that type lol) bank account on a computer. The build is pretty solid, he CAN get better if he buys used but doesn't prefer to buy used. In Canada, the price difference between a 960. (280w/ tax)and 970 (480w/tax) is almost double. I know people will recommend 280x's or 290s but he watched some videos and decided he wanted something nVidia.

you mentioned "cool and quiet"  and Now a days A GPU will Idle in fan less at 50C which just seems too hot to me. personally this temp at idle is "not ok" 

 

hell my 980 with the ACX 2.0 was throttling in its old case. and now if I let the Card run away with the Fans trying to keep it under 70c im looking at 3000 rpm hairdryer fan speeds just to keep playing E.D or Warthunder at 4k

Point being Neither Nvidia or AMD have cards that fit "cool and quiet"

imo, any temp under 80 at load is fine (for all components, gotta check those vrm temps!) and then optimize for silence. I have a powercolor pcs+ 290x, and it could be idling at 28-29 degrees if I left he stock fan curve, but I let it get up to 45 degrees so that the fans aren't moving.
