R9 390 worth it for the 8 gigs of Vram?

cheeze_tartz
Go to solution Solved by itachipirate,

So should I still get the 390 for DX 12?

if you are currently 390 vs 970 and have a 600w+ power supply get the 390 just for the extra VRAM, even at 1080p. You don't know what you'll want in the future, maybe you'll go 4k or crossfire. Maybe there are 1080p games that use over 3.5gb of VRAM (there are)

Is it worth it for 1440p? over the GTX 970? I know its a re-brand but you get extra Vram.

Google the comparisons,

the R9 390 is equal or better at 1440p with more Vram

EDIT: the R9 390 4gb is best for price/perf

If you can get a R9 290/R9 290x would be a good choise too

I can't find any good benchmarks thats why I posted this topic. But in terms off 1080p the GTX 970 is better, right?

Screw the 390.  Buy the 290, it's the same thing and about $100 cheaper.

Oh, and you get some free games too!

Well the 970 and 390 are both $330.

I would go for the R9 390, same or better perf with double Vram

There are about a million topics on this, the best is to decide on your own looking at the benches .

well, will the 390 even be able to reach the 8gb without lagging? Like set everything on ultra for GTA V, or Far Cry, without it lagging?

No you won't see 8gb of VRAM usage with acceptable performance on a 390. You will likely see more than 4gb in those games on ultra without terrible framerate, which is what puts the 390 ahead of the 970
