Storage space vanishing ? Look here !

So I keep seeing these strange issues with storage space going or being taken up by something. I have the solution. I came across this issue because of also a lot of storage space was missing from my WD Green 2TB drive.

 

First solution

Delete any zip files you don't need. Many people download zip files and never delete them after they are done extracting the goodies from them. After awhile these guys pile up and take up storage space.

 

Second solution ( Most hog of storage space ) 

The reason why most storage space is missing is basically of system protection. Now what system protection does is well protect your system. It contains system settings and system files along with system restore points. Now depending on the size of your drive ( Drive with your OS on it ) it automatically decides to take up a certain amount of space from your drive for system protection.

 

First type or find advanced system settings and you should get a window like this.

 

Now select the system protection tab and you should see the image above.  Now select the drive that has your OS on it. Like in the picture above it says it as local disk ( system )

 

Then click configure and you should see a window like this now.

 first delete all previous system restore and files and you should get an increase in storage. As you can see am a worry type of guy so I have lots of space to spare for system protection.

 

Of course now change the slider depending on how big your storage space is and tada you have more space. Now don't forget to create a new system restore point.

 

The first time I did this and changed it. I had 1TB full of system protection data so yea. Now I gotten a crap ton of space now and now have 1.7 TB of space now

 

I hope this gets pinned to help others and to in general to help those who are wondering what happened to their storage space.
