Hi everyone!

I am building a mITX build with hardware from the top shelf!

The idea is:
- To make it as small as possible,
- Silent through extensive use of Noctua products (Air cooling)
- It has to provide steady 60 fps for a 1440x3440 ips monitor
- To build in a Ncase M1

I have:
- Ncase M1
- Samsung 850 pro 256gb SSD (OS)
- Crucial *somthing* 480gb SSD (Steam library)
- A handful of Noctua fans

I'm thinking:
- 4790k
- 980ti (i'm thinking reference cooler)
- ASUS MAXIMUS VII IMPACT
- 16GB Ram 1866Hz'ish and 9-9-9-27'ish

I would like suggestions for:
- Psu
- Cpu cooler (AIR!!!!)
- what layout to chose

I hope for:
- enough spare space to fit that slimline optical drive
- Fantastic airflow with low Rpm fans

Inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgQ69TtPeVg

I Like:
- The airflow
- Layout of GPU, Fans and psu direction

I don't like:
- I'm sure he could have fitted a Noctua NH-L12
And that it would have been better for airflow.

Now help me! Oh great and mighty internet!!
I call upon thee, for thine endless knowledge and experience!!+!!!

Here is some ideas (with the use of N-Case M1 in mind)

1. get a i7 because when you want to change your processor it is going to be hell (down the road)

2. Corsair H100i or CoolerMaster Nepton 240M and ditch the idea of air cooling in that case

3. Get the Asus Z97I because the Maximus is really just a overpriced thing with some better audio.

4.Get a reference card unless you want all your other components to overheat

How much money do you want to spend on it?

For the PSU, definitely go with the Silverstone SFX-600G, though 600w may be cutting it close with a 980ti

For the cooler, you should probably look at some AIO coolers especially if you will be overclocking. The main thing you should look out for with this is the total thickness of the radiator WITH the fans installed to make sure that there will be no clearance issues

@TheAmazingCookieFromSquare: I7 and reference GPU was the plan ;) , but water cooling is not an option, i have AIO now and pumps are noisy as crap, even tho i was lucky with mine (IMO).

@Prömetheus: i live in expensive Scandinavia, so in the end, i guess it will run me 2.500 USD (total value)

@g4m3cr34tor: PSU sounds great :) and i know 600W will be fine, if quality is good. i checked that the build can even be powered by a 500W, but AIO or water is still not an option for me, i ran over air vs. AIO for the past 4 months and i see no reason for AIO.

  • 1 month later...

Final result:

Cpu: 4790K
GPU: 980ti Ref. cooler
Ram: 16gb corsair dominator platinum 2166mhz
Mobo: ASUS MAXIMUS VII IMPACT
SSD1: 850 pro 256gb (OS n' such)
SSD2: Intel 730 480gb (steam n' such)

PSU: Silverstone 600w SFX
Optical: Panasonic UJ265
Case: Ncase M1 V4
CPU Cooler: Noctua D9L
Intake: 2x Noctua 120mm
Exhaust: 1x Noctua 92mm + the GPU

Fantastic airflow throughout the whole thing,
with cpu cooler blowing back towards the exhaust fan.

I'm going to mod the PSU with a more silent fan, at which point
i am utterly unable to imagine anymore improvements to this perfect build.

Thank you for feedback everyone.
