PC Turns off randomly..

Go to solution Solved by kfarris,

Try updating the BIOS http://us.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/drivers-downloadsclick desktops, GT series, GT5656

Then click on bios and download their is only 1 bios download so hopefully its newer than what you have.

Doesn't look like their was any linux drivers for it either..

Edit: What do you mean? "fedora or CentOS since the Virtualization software only supports those two operating systems?" What software? Actually most of the linux distros will run virtualization software as long as the hardware supports it opensuse, linux mint can do it and I know ubuntu can.

What software are you planning on using?

1. Did you see  BIOS protection jumper anywhere on the motherboard?

2. Change first boot device to flash drive

3. If you have any other flash drive like device unplug it during BIOS update.

So this is your motherboard then yes? http://www.ascendtech.us/ecs-mcp61pm-am-dual-core-am2-motherboard_i_mb64ecsmcp61pma.aspx

If so download that BIOS.

Lol, thanks now I am getting the response instantly. Also, Good job! Now when you try to install Fedora or centOS make sure to tell BIOS to boot from that first. and not anything else. By changing the boot priority and retry the install.

Edit about time.  :P

No prob :P I boot the Fedora usb and select Default (install Fedora 22) its Unetbootin :P and it hangs on the Reached Target Basic System and then spits me out at a bash prompt saying an error occurred and that i should move the txt file that it created to a usb and make a bug report

Now where getting somewhere finally.. Few what a day man.

1. Try unselecting the USB boot priority and change it to HDD and see if you can BOOT fedora manually by mashing keys then retry install.

Try installing from a CD or perhaps try the fedora light edition first, also try centos versions.

it says it failed to format/partition the disk correctly (Prolly just a dumb jumper setting since I am installing on IDE drive) Changed it to master and will see what happens next

Ya I would mess around with the jumpers those are tricky sometimes. I usually have one master and other CS (cable select.)

Master should be the one on the last end of the ribbon cable. And just set the other to slave.

If that doesn't work try CS on the end and the second (one inbetween motherboard and hdd) to slave.
