I went and got myself a nice HP Envy Laptop, and I do love it, but I kinda feel like I want a bit more of a permanent set up at home, and that's when I saw an ad integration on an LTT video I was watching that showed a really cool looking laptop stand/dock with an integrated fan as well as a few usb ports.

My laptop runs kinda hot and it's rather loud anyway so an additional fan wouldn't make much of a difference to the noise and would cool it down nicely and I don't have many USB ports so some more would be appreciated, it's a 15.6" laptop so I guess what I'm asking is: any suggestions.

Also you can probably guess what I'm going for: That MSI GS30 Shadow but without an external GPU.

Cooling pad + usb hub? If i remember correctly Kensington has a nice USB based docking station with video outputs and i think an additional HDD.

If your laptop needs a cooling pad, then I would be seriously considered. If you are in your return period I would return the laptop.

Doesn't help that HP track record shows that they don't know how to make a laptop that survives 1 year, by selling over specs system for the cooling system, to show the highest spec for the price system.

goodbytes, it seems OP simply wants a better set up then simply just a laptop. more IO for example. I doubt the laptop NEEDS additional cooling.

people say things are running way to hot all the time, even when its 100% in the normal specs of the device.

Oh. Well if that is the case.

Check out this USB 3.0 dock station from Dell (yes it will work for your HP laptop, it works via USB):

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&sku=452-BBPG

It gets you:

-> 2x USB 2.0

-> 3x USB 3.0

-> 1x Network Gigabit Ethernet plug

-> HDMI-DVI Adapter included

-> 2x HDMI

-> 1 DisplayPort

-> Operates a 4K monitor (although I don't know if it is 4K 30Hz or 60Hz. Something to look into).

-> 2x Speaker./Headphone connector.

So you basically plug all your stuff: Monitor, printer, mouse and keyboard to it, and then you can just connect a single cable to your laptop USB 3.0 port, and voila! You have a desktop like experience. Easy to plug in and out, and go.

I used a laptop cooler like the link below and had decent luck with it.  The fans didn't spin at a high speed by any means due to being 5v but it looks like they revised the fan set up and it now comes with 80mm fans instead of 90mm and has a controller.   I have a cheap, low end amd HP laptop from 2-3 years ago and the fan has been noisy/poor functioning for about a year and a half now.  tried taking it apart and cleaning it but it must be off balance or something and is just crazy loud/ runs hot but it still keeps running with the coolpad helping
