i keep getting this error any ideas guys its really making my butt hurt id really appreciate any help

$  tar -zxvf eggdrop1.6.20.tar.gz
tar (child): eggdrop1.6.20.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
 
the program is cygwin terminal if you didnt notice the title lol
 
and this error 
 
pc@pc-PC ~
$  cd <new directory>
-bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'

When you execute "ls" in the directory you're trying to extract the tar, is it actually there?

 

Before changing directories, use "ls" to actually see which are available to you.

 

If you could clarify what directory you're trying to change to that would help.
