A friend of mine bought a Lenovo Y50-70 recently and he's a bit worried about the temperature of the CPU in particular. The CPU idle temp is around 40*C usually and under load I've personally seen it go up to about 85*C during Witcher 3 gameplay. Although ambient temp is probably 30*C since it's summer and AC uses a fair amount of power, I still think it should be a bit lower. The CPU is a i7 4710HQ IIRC @ 2.5GHz base and 3.5 GHz Turbo.

My question is as follows, is there any setting and/or tweak that can be made to this laptop to improve the current state. Tj max is 100*C but I'd wager being as far away from that is better. My own knowledge of laptops is not as extensive as I'd like to be so I am asking for your help. Thanks in advance.

...thats normal if not low for laptops mate

edit: if bios is unlocked, undervolt it. that will also help with battery life.

be sure that no vents are covered, you could also invest in a cooling mat.

If it weren't for the warranty preventing the thing to be opened, I'd probably get some better thermal paste and also clean out the dust. We tried to dust the vents as best we could without opening it but without compressed air or a vaccuum that can blow air out, we were fairly limited as to what we could do. Cooling may help. One idea I had was turning off turbo boost but undervolting might be worth a shot.
