Started a tread a couple off weeks ago but didnt get any response. This is my 2nd try, ive read up on some stuff and im still puzzled over what hardware to choose...

Im building my first home server and this tread is supposed to help me with hw choices and other issues that may arise. First some info on what im looking for.

The server will be running linux.
The server is going to be used for streaming media, i will most likely use plex media server for this unless anyone can come with other alternatives.
I will use it as a fileserver for my network.
And i will also use it as my personal web server. Only for testing and developing web sites etc.

There will be 2 users for the server. One will use all it's services and the other will use it for streaming media.

This is the hardware ive found this far, im open for all input on the matter.

Case: Fractal Design node 304
Motherboard: Asrock C2750D4I
Ram: Kingston ValueRAM 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 ECC x2

Since i have all other components all i need is motherboard (CPU if not included) and ram.

Ps. Im not going to use any other case than the node 304 since its M-ITX and can hold 6 hdds.

i dont know what hardware i need and what is overkill. Is a 8-core 2.4 GHz cpu good for transcoding or should i swap out the motherboard to a 1150 and use a i3 or i5 with less cores but higher clock speeds. Do i need ECC ram? I wont run any raid on it right now but if i ever switch to FreeNAS it would be nice.

Its going to run Plex, samba, and apache is the specs ok for that or will it run on its limits at all times?
