So, I am building a budget computer, and I attempted to use a Hitachi drive, which was faulty, and the second was as well, so I got myself a WD Blue 1TB drive. I plugged it in, and my computer seemed to work fine, until I came back to find that it had turned itself off. I turned it back on, and it got to the screen where the four colored lights fly onto the screen and make the Windows logo, but then the screen went black, and the icon started flashing on my monitor that it does whenever it's disconnected, or connected to an off PC. Furthermore, the PC remained on. And if that wasn't enough, it doesn't shut off when I hit Restart; the screen goes black, but the lights and fan remain on. I'm really frustrated at this point; I've spent months on this. Someone please help. It is a G3258 on an MSI Z87 board, with a GTS 450 placeholder and a Antec Neo Eco 620 watt PSU. My thought was that the black screen after Windows was due to overheating, but I don't know; this is my first time building a PC.

I may be wrong but I would think it unlikely for THREE hard drives to be faulty so soon after purchase.

I'd suggest trying a different graphics card/booting without a graphics card. If that doesn't help try to reseat the ram (actually remove then reinsert it), reseat all SATA cables, and check the RAM is in the correct slots (refer to your motherboard manual). If that doesn't help, my final suggestion is to remove the CPU cooler, clean the thermal paste of the CPU and cooler with 99.9% isopropyl alcohol, remove and reseat the CPU, then apply fresh thermal paste and reattach the cooler.

Both of the Hitachi drives were definitely defective; they made loud grinding noises and caused blue screens. I am almost certain the WD drive is not faulty.

I can do all of those except cleaning the CPU; I don't have thermal paste on hand.

Thanks for the advice(followed now :) ).
