I would like a machine that is used solely for rendering premiere projects that were made on other computers. My budget is 2000-3000 I really can't decide if dual xeons or a 5930k/5960x would be better. I would be using Adobe CC and would like to know if there is anyway to submit something to be rendered on a different machine in a cue system?

Dual xeons no questions asked.

I think a single 12 Core Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 would do the job well and you dont have to deal with dual socket and ultra expensive motherboards. Also good luck trying to go dual xeon on 2k-3k budget...

Getting a $1000 USD Xeon, will not matter if he don't have good storage. The first think you have to think is your storage solution like RAIDs, scratch discs, cause will be a huge part of his budget. Then we start to think if a Xeon fit the budget.

Premiere Pro don't need dual CPUs, a 5820k is fine, but you need a nice GPU to render and buffer the 4k resolution. Since CC supports OpenCL, I would wait for AMD new GPU, or get a GTX 980 Ti.

Do you need a monitor, mouse, keyboard, OS, Headphones, DAC, will you use this machine for daily work or just sometimes you will be using Pr and Ae ?

Dual xeons would significantly outperform any i7 in rendering tasks. That said premiere uses the gpu a lot, so you may want to go for a single xeon and get a beefier gpu (or more than one) instead. R9 series gpus provide a huge bang for the buck, but if you can spend more quadros are still king of the hill.

I think quadros will not be faster than a GeForce on Premiere Pro, on AE is the king of the hill, but Pr needs more CUDA, if he have a 10-bit monitor than he really should consider using Quadro.

hm, I don't really know exactly what kind of calculations premiere needs, but usually rendering requires a lot of double precision flops which quadros can provide (in parallel with the same amount of cuda cores if you can pay the price premium).

We already have a 36tb storage server so we are good on storage do you think you could spec something on pcp? We will render to an ssd then off load to the storage server

Sure mate.

Some people might say is overkill, I was between the 850 PRO 1TB, the SM951, and the Intel 750. The last two have 2GB/s Read and 1.5GB write, the three are at the same base price, and I don't know if you need more than 500GB as a Scratch disk.

But if you do need more than 1 TB and no need for overkill speeds. Here's another list:

The HDDs will be in RAID 0, I assumed in this came if you're using Media Encoder and exports projects in a row, so 4TB for a few 4k footage might be more than enough.

And why a Seagate and not a WD Red, simple, RAID 0  is not reliable, and since you already have a server, there's no need to spend extra money.

Does premiere benefit from having that gpu? would the money be better spent on a 12 core xeon and a 250 ish gig scratch disk?

The problem you had with quadro GPU was the number of CUDA cores, which Premiere Pro needs (yellow bar on composition), CPU s good for rendering (red and green bar on your composition). Quadro and FirePro their use is intended to After Effects, and 3D modeling, or a low Quadro for Photoshop using the 10-bit image output. I would recommended a Xeon if you were working a lot with AE, since the render is done by the CPU and the playback by the GPU.

About the Scratch disk, a good SSD will have a better performance over two HDDs in RAID 0, but sometimes you want to export, let's say, 6 compositions with 4k footage in a row using Media Encoder, and need more than 500 GB, so that's why the HDDs come in use.

But anyway, here's a part list using a 12-core Xeon and a 250GB Samsung SSD.

CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2670 V3 2.3GHz 12-Core Processor  ($1489.95 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler  ($59.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: MSI X99A SLI PLUS ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard  ($231.00 @ Amazon)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($67.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290X 8GB Tri-X Video Card  ($349.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $2932.88

I chose the R9 290X because of the 8GB memory.

And all of those systems are based on Silent operation.
