I'm planning to upgrade my current setup. Some information about what I'm thinking about it so far:

1. Near silent but powerful

2. Good looks is a big plus

Case: With those two in mind I've come up with using the Fractal Design Define R5 as the case. It looks good and is silent, also I will be purchasing the windowed side panel as an extra. The fans for the case I haven't really settled on yet. I have searched a bit about what fans are the best but silent, noctua looks to be the winner. But performance isn't my only factor. The biggest factor is how silent, then the looks for me and the Noctua fans aren't really a looker. As for the colors I'm going for red and black. How silent are the Corsair AF140/120 Quiet Edt.?

PSU: Going to wait for the Corsair RM850i to realse. It's going to have near silent performance during idle and be quiet during load too if I'm not wrong.

GPU: Asus GTX 980 Ti Strix, for that silence once again.

As for the CPU, motherboard and RAM I'm going to wait for skylake to realease in september. I have the parts of my current build that I'm going to use instead.

The PC is mainly for gaming, I do however use it for music and movies alot and would like to eliminate the sound from the PC as much as I can. Hope that I can have it on during the night without it being an issue for me to sleep. (Same room as bed) In addition I have a Swift monitor with G-sync. So AMD is not and option.

I live in Norway.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't go with the strix gpu, not a very good cooler you would be much better of with a gigabyte 980ti and enable a custom fan curve so that it's quiet. The corsair AF series of fans aren't the quietest fans availible I would personally go with a Be Quiet Wings 2 (or the 3 just announced at computex).

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

for case i will recommend be quiet silent base 800 too. But r5 is good enough too with side window panel will be less quite but the looks are important too from what you talked about.

fan for both looks and performance i will recommend you the industrial ppc noctua expensive but you can afford 980ti so i think it is okay for you too.

corsair dont rili have quiet fans i would say, personally using 2 sp for my radiator and they are not as quiet as noctua.

you are not asking for cpu cooler but i will suggest too, dark rock 3 from be quiet for air cooling and swifttech h220x(some said it leaks but i have never seen one leak before, 3 of my friends has it anyway) for aio cooling. im using h100i gtx because i have a good deal and can't afford h220x.

Don't wait for skylake. From what I've heard the only ups they have for gaming are DDR4 support and amazing Iris Pro Graphics. Other then that I'd say stick with a 4790k. For a PSU anything with like ECO mode or a fan less one would be good. Cases anything the other two have suggest are good. Also I'd personally go for the Gigabyte 980ti.

@ADZ_123_!"£ - Which one from Gigabyte? And are there any release dates on the aftermarket gigabyte ones? The be quiet wings 2 is the one I would go with, have to find out when wings 3 is comming out tho.

@Zackfoo - I have looked into the Silent Base 800, the R5 seems to be to be the better of the two for my case. I have 2 sp fans for my h70, however the sp fans are louder than the af as far as I know? When the skylake CPU's come out I'm going to look into the air cooling ones from be quiet. Heard good things about the dark rock 3 pro. Not going to go with aio cooling because of noise.

@DarkBlade2117 - What about the rumours that the CPU and GPU can work better when DX12 comes out? I'm not really up to date on this however.

I think all of the after market 980ti's are going to be out pretty soon and that is the one I would go for.

Not to sure about the release of the wings 3 but if there not released by the time you get to doing the build then the wings 2 would still be a very good idea.

Going to go with the Windforce 980Ti then :)

As for the silent wings 3, I searched a bit and they said october for a release.

cooler master silencio 652s should be really quiet too. and nzxt h440( some reviews says it has same silent ability as windowed side panel r5.)

aio is quite noisy for the pump but only when under heavy loads, will be quite fine especially with a silent case. but air cooling like d15 from noctua, dr pro 3 will be as good as dual 120mm radiator.

sp are super ear bleeding while under 100% load(personally have cpu under 100% load all time so it is quite annoying) but the new one is quite fine around 30 to 50% speed. still, will recommend noctua fans. Be quiet have some really great fans but too bad my country don't have and i did not watch or read any reviews about it.

dx 12 enable integrated graphics card( the one that comes with cpu, no idea what is the real name for it) to work together with your GPU, means together it produce boost of fps. By a little bit. i have no idea about skylate so i leave it to dark blade better.

personally have a strix gpu btw it is not as bad as the reviews states, it is actually performing well and quiet but again, i only read reviews so can't say much about other than strix.

If it's just a rumor see how much it boost your FPS. The CPU side of things they aren't that great for heavy loads. If they have great overclock abilities, and are gonna boost your FPS 10-20ish FPS I don't see why not. But with a 980ti at 1440p it may barely give you much more FPS. Wait for benchmarks if that's what you wanna do and see how much power it's truly gonna give. If it's less then 10 don't sacrifice CPU power for,it.
