Dying Light Review :)

Dying Light is a First-Person open world zombie survival game, in which players assume the role of the protagonist ‘Kyle Crane’ a special operative working for the GRE sent to the zombie infested city of Harran to intercept a file from someone they tracked down to Harran. The game is made by polish developer Techland, the people responsible for the other zombie game, Dead Island.

Graphics: Dying Light isn’t the greatest looking game in the world, but it is still quite pretty and the art style serves its purpose for what the game is aiming for. The main colour pallet is made up of green, red, brown, yellow, black and silver. The game looks stunning compared to its predecessor Dead Island and can hold much more zombies and more polygons and textures. The textures for walls are extremely sharp and look beautiful at a distance and the water is also very pretty. Sunsets are extremely stunning with the lighting from the sun correctly shining through the trees and creating an awesome shadow. The amount of zombies on screen is incredible, the draw distance is also very acceptable.

The one issue with the graphics was that I found that screen tearing happened way too often.

Overall the visual fidelity of Dying Light suits it well and is extremely Pretty, Earning itself the “Next- Gen graphics” seal of approval.

Graphics: 4.8/5

Gameplay: You can’t talk about a videogame without talking about what you do in it.

In Dying Light there is plethora of things to do. From story missions to Side quests to just running around doing whatever you want.

But the main mechanic in the game is Finding weapons and killing zombies and Parkour. There are a variety of ways to do this with either a normal weapon or you can modify your weapons to make them more powerful as well as using a dropkick to kick them into spikes or even with traps that you can set up.

After killing a zomie they then drop loot.It can range from crafting items to money.

Another big part of the game is exploration, Because the game is open world you can explore as much as you want and find secrets and have fun.

Parkour is your main way of traversing Harran, It is really fun once you get used to it, The developers got the inventor of Parkour to do motion capture for the game for extra realism.

When it becomes night time you better put your running shoes on because, zombies get stronger and faster and an enemy type called the “Volatiles” come out. They chase after you, you will need a flashlight at night and a UV one for volatiles. You can always skip night time but that will stop you from getting more powerful, at night XP doubles. Night Time is really scary, tense and fun which makes it awesome with surround sound speakers.

You also upgrade your character with power, survivor and agility skills.

In Dying Light there is also Co-Op play where you and 3 other friends can play online, I have not had a chance to test this.

There Is also a multiplayer mode called “Be the Zombie” where you are a zombie and invade someone else's game and attack them, It is extremely fun because you have a “grappling hook” to fly around the city with.

There is also a companion app available which lets you collect supplies and send them into the full game, a fun way to get a good supply base. Overall The gameplay is very fun and varies depending on playstyles. There is a lot to do so it will keep you coming back for hours on end.

Gameplay:5/5

The Story: If you were hoping for a story driven game, you will be disappointed here. This is where Dying Light falls Flat on its face. The story is quite predictable, and you don’t become attached to any of the characters.

The main character is an annoying prat who only cares about himself.

The voice acting isn’t terrible but far from perfect.

The story like I said is cliche as far as it can be. There is a zombie outbreak, people die, Hero must save people, Hero must work with villain, Allies become zombies, Hero kills villain, The End.

Overall, the story can be improved a lot in a sequel, then again the story isn’t awful.

The Story: 3/5

Is it a good zombie game: The short answer is, yes. Long answer is yes because the exploration is fun and massacring zombies is fun and you must experience the game to find love for it, It was also the first zombie game I ever played and I am happy with what Techland have created with Dying Light, It’s not the scariest game ever, but I am glad about that.

Overall, Dying Light is superb at being a zombie game and is really fun to play.

Is it a good zombie game: 4/5

The Final Verdict: Dying Light is the first true “Next- Gen” zombie game that will keep you at the edge of your seat at night and has fun gameplay but where it flounders is in the weak storyline but the positives outweigh the negatives. In Conclusion, I highly recommend Dying Light to anyone that loves zombie games, It is one of my favourite games of 2015. Lets hope the rest of the year doesn't disappoint

The Final Verdict:16.8/20
