Hi im new here in LTT forum, but iv'e been watching LTT youtube videos for years so be gentle with me.  :)

I have a rig. A low end i think. i'm planning to put some discreet gpu.

This is my current rig.

CPU: AMD A10-5800k apu

MOBO: MSI FM2-a75ma-p33

RAM: 4gb Gskill planning to upgrade it 8gb

HDD: WD blue 500gb

GPU: planning to buy gtx 960

PSU: planning to buy seasonic m12II evo 520 or 620 depends on my budget.

My question is: Is the gtx 960 compatible with my current mobo? I did some research and others says that my apu will bottleneck the gpu slightly.

I choose the seasonic m12II evo since it's modular and i can buy individually sleeve cables for it. and it's fairly cheap, good deal i think.

My reason: I choose gtx 960 since it's sale and more affordable than r9 290, 280x. Not to mention some free games on gtx 960.

But in the near future i'll build another rig, a decent one. Maybe some ROG board and i5 or i7 processor. And also the reason i want to buy a discreet gpu is that i can play some AAA games. Need your folks! And again be gentle with me. I'm a newbie pc enthusiast.  :D

Don't ask why i bought apu. Sh!t happens. Lesson learned. Tnx

How much cheaper? Both the 280x and 290 are better cards

My advice for you is to get a overkill GPU, The R9 280x would be a better option than the GTX 960 unless you can find a 4gb version at a lower price than the 280x.
And carry over the GPU when you buy a new Motherboard+CPU.

I went hugely overkill when i got the GTX 660, Since i was on a A6 6400k(overclocked to 5Ghz), But i was planning to get the Athlon 760k.
Now when i have the 760k im balanced.

My Gaming PC

|| CPU: Intel i5 4690@4.3Ghz || GPU: Dual ASUS gtx 1080 Strix. || RAM: 16gb (4x4gb) Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600Mhz. || Motherboard: MSI Z97S Krait edition. || OS: Win10 Pro

The cheapest 4gb version is about 220$ from what I looked up. And for that you could have a 290 that would outperform it. I agree with you 100% tho.

Gtx 960 2gb: 258 us dollars

Gtx 960 4gb: 276 us dollars

R9 280x 3gb: 370 us dollars

R9 290: around 370 i think.

I choose gtx 960 cuz it's fairly cheap and free legit games. Witcher 3 B) , metal gear, Batman arkham knight i  think.

Wtf, in what universe is a 280x 100 dollars more then a 960, thats just insane.
