This one might be a little different for you.

We're building a presentation computer for a church in Michigan, USA that will drive the house projection system for around $800. This will be our base machine. We will upgrade it as needed to support our planned future upgrades. This system will primarily be used to display multiple PowerPoints, HD videos, song lyrics (Using ProPresenter) and HD camera feeds or laptop feeds at the same time. This may include live video and animated effects. It is imperative that the system be stable and not stutter during presentations. We will be ordering the parts as soon as we can so current deals will be helpful. We also tend to leave the computer on all the time so we can remote into it during the week, in case that effects the parts. Multitasking is a must have because we run a lot of programs at the same time. This computer will be our main presentation computer for a number of years which is why it needs to be scalable. Oh and disclaimer in case I need it: We understand that this conversation is for research purposes only and won't hold anyone accountable for any purchase decisions we make because of it.

Components:

  • Tower/Case
  • Motherboard
  • Processor (at least quad core @ 3GHz)
  • RAM(8-16GB+)
  • (1-2) Video cards(4-6 outputs)
  • Power Supply Unit
  • 100GB+ HDD
  • (Optional based on performance or noise) Water-cooled CPU fan

(We don't need any peripherals, Just the Tower components)

Details:

  • Case: Quiet. Black, minimal lights, removable dust filter, lots of fans or fan spots, 2 optical drive slots, Front Panel USB ports, 2+ HDD slots, Space for the Video card(s)
  • Processor: Our expectation is that most of the programs we run will be CPU intensive. We probably won't overclock... at least at first.
  • RAM: 8-16 GB RAM or more, decent speed.
  • Motherboard: Must be able to fit 1-2 video cards and 1-2 video capture cards, onboard NIC
  • Video: output 2-4 1080P video signals (1 VGA & 1 VGA or DVI – 2 HDMI, 1 VGA, 1 VGA or DVI), High frame rates are not as important as smooth video (ie. Dropped frames/torn frames)

Optional/additional/future upgrades not included in the $800 budget

  • Windows Pro OEM 7/8/10 (max $200 additional budget)
  • (1-2) Video Capture Card(s) (1080p stream to video outputs) ($100-$200 additional budget) (HDMI/VGA/DVI/Component/Composite) (PCIe?)
  • 2 optical drives (1 DVD, 1 BLU-Ray) (Might be External USB)
  • SSD

Here's what I need this build to be able support in the future:

  • Video: output 6 video signals (2 HDMI, 1 VGA, 3 VGA or DVI)
  • SSD

My main concerns are processing power and efficient data communication between the components. If you think I will need or want something different let me know. If you think this budget is wrong for this build, let me know, I have a little leeway if I move things around. Also let me know if you have any comments or questions.

I appreciate any help you can give. Thanks,

~Kyle
