Best SATA2 SSD

Go to solution Solved by SkilledRebuilds,

My issue is that i would be paying for an ssd with the capability of 500+MB/s, but only being abel to take advantage of like 350MB/S. Im looking for an older ssd that can max out sata 2 with out being overkill, im am on a bit of a buget. Thank you for the swift response though

There is ZERO ZERO ZERO point doing that.

They would have more wear and tear of the flash, more limited writes, older generation controllers inside.. just DONT.

Modern Drives are SO much better internally, and you can use the Sata3 SSD as Sata2 until you upgrade,...MAXIMIZE the performance on your next PC with the same SSD and enjoy the Sata3 spec speeds.

Skimping for an Older SSD is not good, the older ones were LESS reliable as well.

When an SSD dies... It's PROPER dead, Bios cannot see it, data lost, in an INSTANT, unrecoverable.

/Capitalized for emphasis,.. not for anger.

Hello, i currently have a seagate barracuda 1TB hard drive, and want to upgrade to an SSD, thing is, i only have SATA2 on my GA-78LMT-USB3 (REV.5). What is the best ssd that will "max out" Sata2 without spending money on performance that can't be used? thank you

I am looking for a 120GB+ SSD

Samsung 850 evo would be a good option, I get roughly 520-550MB/s ish read/write speeds, but due to sata II being 3GB/s, you'd only get roughly 375MB/s, so its a little "overpowered" for sata II usage, but it will leave you with a very fast, reliable drive that you can still gain performance on by upgrading your mobo to one with sata III.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W
