Wifi hotspot help

Hey guys,

My girlfriend cannot real wifi connection (long story). I brought up the idea of her getting a wifi hotspot device.

But the thing is is that I don't know how that really works. Can anyone explain to me simply how hotspots work and how I can get ahold of it for my girlfriend to use? She wants to use it to game. Thank you guys so much

If you want  a WiFi hotspot device you t will be on something like a phone plan, but just with data, I don't think that having a WiFi hotspot device solely for gaming would be the best idea, because it may get used up really fast, especially if she is downloading new games from steam at times, the data on the hotspot device would get used up fast and it would be hell paying overage fees. Maybe convice her to get a real WiFi/phone plan? Because going with a hotspot device is not the best bet in any sense if the main use would be for gaming. You would probably want to actually get WiFi, or maybe explain why she cannot get WiFi?

A wifi hotpsot would be via a cellular data connection and would be a HORRIBLE way to access the internet for gaming. The amount of data used in gaming would eat up data faster than a fat man eats a small cookie when hungry.

It's not that bad. I have used my unlimited lte for gaming with hotspot, really no problems. And ping was also decent.
