screen resolution problems

hey everyone!

Recently i bought a new monitor, the HP ZR2440w. What i usually do is that i always keep my PC on and so at night, i turn off the monitor from its front buttons. what used to happen is that i would turn my monitor back on and the resolution was fine. but with this windows thinks i have removed the monitor completely and so it automatically changes to 1024x768 resolution. when i try to turn the resolution back to the native 1920x1200 the screen goes blank. i use a screen sharing program and see that it is on and it is at the resolution, but it wont display on my screen for some reason. only fix i have been able to find is that i need to restart the computer completely.

is there a way that i can set a permanent resolution so that when i turn the display back on, it shows that. or maybe some monitor settings somewhere in the monitor itself or windows' monitor settings.
